NEOCS sees many reasons and benefits for going ‘electronic’. Having an EMR system allows instant access to patient charts at any campus at any time by our physicians and staff. Completely secure, this medical information is even available at the physicians home when they are on call.
Our EMR system was specifically developed for cardiology practices by a company named GEMMS.
All paper charts are converted to an electronic format by clinical staff. One benefit of EMR is the ability to query the system. One example: when VIOXX was withdrawn from the market, and although we do not prescribe this medication, The Heart Group was able to run a report for every patient that had VIOXX show up on their active med list. An informational letter was written and mailed to all of our patients regarding the withdrawal of VIOXX and encouraged to contact their PCP.
