Internship and residency was completed at University Hospitals of Cleveland where he received the Outstanding Senior Resident Award. His Fellowship was done at Krannert Institute of Cardiology, Indiana University School of Medicine, as well as Senior Fellow in interventional cardiology at Krannert 1990-1991.

Dr. Berkovitz is the past President of Summa Health System Medical Staff. Since 2004 he has been Chairman, Department of Cardiology and Medical Director, Cardiology Service Line at Summa Health System.

Dr. Berkovitz was selected by The American Heart Association in 2007 as a Heart Champion.

The 'Elite Patient Service' award was given to Dr. Berkovitz. This service excellent award is based on patient satisfaction scores from 2005-2007.
