Dr. Chaffee was Chief Resident at University Hospitals of Cleveland in 1989-1990. He was voted as the Most Caring Physician, Summa Health Systems in 2004.

Dr. Chaffee volunteers some of his time at OPEN M and is their Medical Director. OPEN M is a non-denominational outreach with the mission to "Feed the hungry, heal the sick, nurture children, build families, strengthen the community".

The 'Elite Patient Service' award was given to Dr. Chaffee. This service award is based on patient satisfaction scores from Summa from 2005-2007.
