Dr. Hughes served as Chief Fellow in Cardiology at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1989. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor fraternity. Dr. Hughes received his Eagle Scout and God and Country Awards from the Boy Scouts of America. He is presently Associate Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine at Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine.

Best Doctor 2008, was awarded to Dr. Hughes by his peers. He and his wife are actively involved with The American Heart Association.

Dr. Hughes received the Physicians Who Care award in 2004 from the United Way for generously volunteering his time and sharing his medical expertise with non-profit agencies in the community.
