Docs Pair Practices

Shannon Mortland, a writer for Crain's Cleveland Business, published an article regarding the newly formed NEOCS corporation. Some excerpts from the article:

Though mergers aren't at the level they were several years ago, when physicians were combining practices to combat high medical malpractice insurance rates, motivations for mergers remain. Dr. Bauman said cost is one reason he merged his practice (Akron Cardiology Consultants) with The Heart Group. "If we can combine the behind-the-scenes operations and make that more efficient, that should be helpful for the patient side," he said. Dr. Hughes, a cardiologist and co-chairman of the new practice, said "We realized we could be more efficient if we take care of the patients together."

Drs. Hughes & Bauman say they also hope to use their combination as a recruiting tool to attract young doctors to the area. By improving the practice's technology and sharing the patient load, physicians at NEOCS will be able to focus more on their sub-specialties and spend more time with their families."
