Dr. Nicolozakes: 10 Years of Cardiology in Wooster Community

1996-2006 Wooster Community Hospital reflects on ten years of cardiology with Dr. Nicolozakes. Excerpt from article published in WCH magazine, February, 2007.

After completing his cardiology fellowship at The Ohio State University, Alex Nicolozakes was deciding between practicing in a large vs. small town, and a large vs. small hospital. After looking at his options, Dr. Nic decided to join The Heart Group (now NEOCS) and began as the first cardiologist in the area. It became apparent very early on that there was a huge need for cardiology services in Wooster. Dr. Nic states "Over time, we've moved from a 6x8 foot room to our current facilities including The Heart Center, with a full Echo Lab, Cath Lab and Cardiac Rehab areas, the 64-slice CT Scanner, and the opening of the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)in August of 2006. Cyril Ofori, MD, FACC, and Paul Moodispaw, MD, FACC are also full time partners with Nicolozakes at Wooster Hospital.

According to Bill Sheron, CEO of Wooster Community Hospital, the addition of Dr. Nic and The Heart Group hasn't just been a benefit in terms of health care. His group has sponsored Little League teams and raised funds for the American Heart Association.

Dr. Nicolozakes says "It's been a great 10 years of The Heart Group and Wooster Community Hospital working together". Sheron adds, "The Heart Group has brought to us some pretty impressive resources. They have more than 30 cardiologists in their group, and they have access to all of them."

Alex Nicolozakes, MD, FACC, NEOCS cardiologist, is an example of a physician who was committed to come to a small community and was dedicated to bring a new level of care to the community.
