| The Heart Group, now a division of NEOCS, was the first cardiology group in the Akron area to utilize a secure electronic medical record system (EMR), and the first in Ohio to offer their patient's pertinent medical history on a credit card size CD called MyRecord.
Using their EMR, the data base can identify patients who may benefit from taking a less expensive drug with equal effectiveness, or a combination drug. Most heart patients are on several medications and controlling their cholesterol and blood pressure is vital. Taking less pills per day also increases compliance and is easier for the patient.
In addition, NEOCS is proactive in their approach to patients on limited incomes. Patients are provided with information on assistance programs and other ways to lower the cost of necessary medications.
The switch to EMR is sweeping the medical industry with the White House and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMMS) calling for improved healthcare information sharing with access to medical records. Secure EMR systems reduce medication errors and save lives according to government studies.
