While nothing is more devastating than the death of a child, knowing that a child's death is preventable has compelled one Ohio cardiologist to take action. Over the past four years, Dr. Terry Gordon has relentlessly pursued a mission to place an AED (Automated External Debibrillator) in every Ohio school.
When he was President of the local chapter of the American Heart Association, Terry Gordon, DO, raised fund to place AED's in all Summit Co. Jr. & Sr. High Schools. For this effort he was awarded the 2002 National Physician of the Year award from the AHA.
Dr. Gordon is continuing his campaign to raise $5 million dollars to place an AED in every school in Ohio. His ultimate goal is to develop a template for schools and a model that other states can follow to save lives. Dr. Gordon would like to see mandatory legislation that every child before graduation would be taught first-aid, CPR, and use of an AED.
