Alternative Way to Lower Blood Pressure
Between what's considered high blood pressure and normal blood pressure is an ambiguous zone doctors refer to as prehypertension. Although people don't typically take medicines for this condition, it often leads to full-blown hypertension along with all the cardiovascular problems and other adverse outcomes of high blood pressure.
So Dr. Richard Josephson, director of cardiac rehabilitation at Summa Health System, is investigating if non-pharmacologial treatments can help people with prehypertension avoid developing high blood pressure. The new two-year study conducted by Summa Health System and Kent State University received a $400,000 grant by The Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
